Shujaat Bukhari, the editor of Rising Kashmir, was shot dead outside his office in Srinagar by several gunmen on Thursday evening.
Bukhari was shot multiple times outside his office in Press Avenue, one of the busiest areas in Srinagar. According to police, the veteran journalist was leaving the busy Lal Chowk area to attend an Iftar party when he was attacked.
He was accompanied by his driver and Personal Security Officer. They have also been shot and were taken to the hospital.
Bukhari was given police protection since an attack on him in 2000.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister tweeted about the attack. “I’m in complete shock. Hearing the worst but hoping for the best. @bukharishujaat please pull through this,” he wrote.
